While living in Brunei for five years in Southeast Asia, the lush jungles of Borneo offered significant inspiration. I always marveled at the vibrant foliage - clean and glistening from the frequent downpours. Peat swamps offered one of my favorite unusual species - the pitcher plant. In addition to evolving some truly unique life, this ecosystem also provides excellent natural carbon storage, as the acidic waters keep fallen trees from decaying quickly, instead piling up into massive domes.
