I hope you enjoy this watercolor tutorial which shows how to create a mountain landscape with highly textured and layered rocks and trees – using a cut up plastic card! My old ski card from Sunshine had the honors of being cut up and used to paint Mount Yamnuska at sunrise.

I’ve used this technique to paint a number of mountains in the Canadian Rocky Mountains with watercolour. This process using a plastic card takes a bit of courage to layer on roughly mixed paint to get a variety of textures, tones and depths.
